Support for Emotional & Social Development

At Montalbo Nursery and Primary School we take the emotional and social development of our pupils very seriously.

We understand that it is important to ensure that a child is as secure, confident, independent, resilient and kind as possible in order for them to succeed across the curriculum. We place a great focus on developing the personal, social and emotional elements of a child in the Early Years.

For information on how to support your child’s wellbeing at home please see the Wellbeing section of our website.

Sometimes, children require additional support to ensure they develop emotionally and socially. A child may be identified as needing additional support by teachers, parents or other professionals. In this case we may need to seek the advice of other professionals from services like CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service), Educational Psychology, Emotional Resilience Nurses, Behaviour Support or ONE Point. We work in collaboration with these professionals to ensure that each child’s needs are being met.

We work closely with our school nurse who is able to help children with some emotional needs.

In some instances, children’s emotional and social needs can be met within school. This may be through visual prompts and reminders, social stories or intervention. We consider each child’s needs individually and offer a wide range of intervention based on need.
