Reception – Spring 2022

 Spring Term

Welcome back to Reception after a very successful and busy Autumn term!

This half term our topic is ‘People Who Help Us’. This week we have been learning all about Doctors and Nurses and are going to be learning about the good work that Vets, Dentists, the Fire Service and Police do too. We have already enjoyed learning about how Doctors and Nurses help us and found the medical equipment they use fascinating! Miss Lauder couldn’t believe how good we were at remembering the names of the equipment. Some of us tried really hard to write a list of equipment and made some great attempts at sounding out the names.

Literacy

We have started this term reading one of our favourite stories ‘Zog and the Flying Doctors’. We will also be reading some quality texts to support us in our learning of other professions and people who help us. We will be reading ‘Hairy McLary’s Rumpus at the Vets’, ‘Dinosaur Firefighters’ and ‘I’m Afraid Your Teddy is in Trouble Today’. Please check back on our page in the coming weeks to see some of our exciting work. We will be doing a lot of labelling, writing letters and postcards, Wanted posters and much more!

  Maths

We have started the term with an exciting topic on shape. We have been learning about the properties of 4-sided shapes and have impressed the adults with our knowledge. We were particularly good at spotting shapes that were everyday objects on our outdoor shape hunt. We are also going to be completing lots of activities using numbers up to 10 and looking at the composition of numbers. One of our favourite jobs is learning our number bonds to 10, as we get to use a lot of different concrete resources to help us.

Spring 2

During the second part of our Spring term we will be starting our exciting topic on ‘Growth’. We always find it so interesting to find out how things grow differently and hopefully we will be able to grow some of our own plants. Make sure you come back and visit our page to check for updates!
