We have had a very busy Summer term! We were very excited to get back to school after the latest lockdown and were soon back in to our fantastic routine. We started the term with the topic of ‘Traditional Tales’. We have enjoyed developing our creativity, team work and imagination and have particularly enjoyed our new deconstructed role play area, where we get to make our imagination come to life. We loved growing our own plants and observing the changes and have had fun using some real tools in the construction room. We even managed to open an old telephone to investigate what it looks like inside!
Literacy
We have enjoyed reading ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’, The Gingerbread Man’, ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, ‘Robin Hood’, ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ and ‘Puss in Boots’.
We have created our own wanted posters, acted out the story, written postcards and letters and have written some amazing stories! We were lucky enough to have a visit from the elves, who left us some exciting tasks to complete and even had a very cheeky gingerbread man escape with some of his friends! We have developed our independence a lot in the last term and are now writing sentences with very little help. We have also enjoyed learning lots of new sounds and reading them in a range of storybooks.
Maths
In Reception this half term, we have been making and recognising simple and complex patterns. We made some brilliant patterns using peg boards and we have been doing a lot of counting and have learned numbers up to and even past 20. We have even started to add and subtract, using lots of fun and practical resources and are very good at our number bonds! We recently explored doubling and halving and we have impressed our adults with our recall of doubles.
Outdoors
We have enjoyed the change in weather this term and have made the most of our outdoor area and the sunshine. We have been developing out language skills, whilst exploring with different materials such as sand, water and mud. We have enjoyed jumping in muddy puddles, testing how objects float and sink and have enjoyed working on our physical development, with lots of climbing, jumping and balancing.
We are finishing the term by learning all about different locations, animals and habitats. Please come back soon for another exciting update!
