Topic
We have had an exciting start to the Summer term with our ‘Traditional Tales’ topic. We have enjoyed starting our topic with the story of ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’ and thoroughly enjoyed writing letters to the elves. We thought they were very kind and had a lot of requests for the elves to make us some interesting objects! We then had a very exciting week after reading ‘The Gingerbread Man’. Some of our teachers were very kind and decided to bake us some gingerbread men, but they escaped and we caught the whole thing on camera. We spent a lit of time creating maps, searching for clues and creating wanted posters of the gingerbread men. We still haven’t found them, so please keep an eye out for some mischievous looking gingerbread men. We have been doing a lot of building both inside and outside and have made the most of our outdoor area. Some of the children have been working on a continuing building project. They have started the ‘foundations’ of a house and even have a toilet and flushing system!
Literacy
We are looking forward to continuing our topic by reading ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’, ‘Robin Hood’ and ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. We plan on creating a list of food we would like to have in Little Red Riding Hood’s basket, sending messages of help to Robin Hood and acting out the stories.
Maths
This term we are focusing on numbers to
20, focusing on adding more, taking away, doubling, halving and identifying odd and even numbers. We have become very confident using numicon, ten frames and unifix and are looking forward to completing lots of problem solving activities over the Summer term.
Summer 2
In the second half of the Summer term we will be learning about what different places are like. We will be exploring what different animals, habitats and environments are like on beaches, farms, the woods, the desert and the jungle. We are very excited about this topic! Please come and visit again soon for more updates.
