Welcome to Autumn Term in Nursery.
This half term our theme is ‘In the Woods’.
Natural Materials
We have been exploring and experimenting with materials such as leaves, pine cones, conkers, twigs, acorns and other natural materials scavenged from the woodland area. We feel that natural materials provide our children with an abundance of open ended learning opportunities which provoke their curiosity and inspire their creativity.
Owl Babies
Some of our learning this half term has been based around the wonderful story Owl Babies. This story led us to discussions and learning about animal families and our own families. Children were also interested in the different animal habitats and we spent time creating habitats using our small world and loose parts resources.
The Gruffalo
Children also fully embraced the Gruffalo story and we have been camping in our woodland role play area, making fruity Gruffalo toast for snack, playing pin the wart on the Gruffalo’s nose and cooking up some delicious meals for the Gruffalo in the outdoor mud kitchen.
Percy the Park Keeper
Nursery children have been learning a great deal from Percy; from his adventures we have been finding out how we can be kind and helpful to our friends and to the animals that may visit our garden. We made bird feeders and built some hedgehog boxes incase any hedgehogs would like to come and hibernate in our nursery garden.
Squiggle While You Wiggle
This term we have introduced Squiggle time; on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Friday’s children take part in ‘Squiggle While You Wiggle’ sessions. These are fun and active sessions where we make specific movements to music with our ‘flappers’ which help to develop our gross motor muscles. We then turn our dance moves into marks using a range of different media. The aim of the Squiggle programme is to help children to become confident mark makers.
Keep an eye on the Nursery page to find out more about what we have been doing.
