Class 4 – Summer Term 2022

PE is on a Tuesday and Friday.

Outdoor learning is on a Monday.

Spellings are sent home every Monday.

Homework is sent home on a Wednesday and should be handed in on a Monday.

English

In the first half term we will be reading the ‘Roman Soldier’s Handbook’ followed by ‘Escape from Pompeii’ which links to our history topic on Romans. We will be building on the skills we learnt during the autumn term to write pre and post setting descriptions! During the second half term we will explore the traditional tale of ‘Pinocchio’ including the version written by Michael Morpurgo.

Maths

In Maths, we will be looking at decimals, money and time. After half term we will be learning all about statistics and exploring geometry through position and direction. We will of course be continuing to do lots of practice of our times tables. There will also be opportunities to revisit some areas of learning from the year.

Science

In the first half term we will be revisiting ‘Living things and Habitats’ within the seasons of spring and summer as well as exploring another scientist! In the second half term we will be exploring ‘Electricity.’ We will look at how it is created, how to be safe and simple electric circuits.

History

Our history topic this term is the Romans! We will discover why the romans came to Britain and what influence they had on our lives. We will also be thinking about the evidence they left behind and how it is interpreted.

Geography

The topic this term is Europe and we will become familiar with its countries, mountain ranges, rivers and cities. We will be looking at the importance of trade in Europe. This is building on our earlier country study of Greece.

RE

This half term we will be learning all about Ramadan and the five pillars of Islam. We will be looking at why Muslims fast and reflect on their beliefs. After that we will be exploring Christian Pilgrimage and comparing it to pilgrimage in other religions.

French

In French we will be learning how to talk about leisure activities and how to conjugate verbs. We will also discover popular French leisure activities.

Computing

In computing we will be learning how to create our own video tutorials. We will also be developing our skills with Publisher.

Art

During the second half of the term, we will be discovering art through our Roman topic by creating mosaics and exploring self-portraits inspired by Van Gogh.

DT

In Design Technology we will be designing and making our own pizzas. This includes the packaging, labelling and costing ingredients.

PE

This term we are lucky to have coaching in cricket and tag rugby. After half term we will move our focus to athletics.

Music

This half term we will be learning how to play the ukulele, creating our own compositions and developing our listening skills.

Outdoor Learning

Over the summer term we will be gardening. We will be creating a pollinator garden, growing beans and exploring alpine plants. Later on in the term we will be developing team building skills.
