Hello Fantastic Fours! Let’s have a look at what we have to look forward to this term!
English
In the first half term we will be looking at poetry from ‘I don’t like Poetry’ by Joshua Seigal followed by ‘Greek Myths’ by Marcia Williams which links to our history topic on Ancient Greece. We will be learning about different poetical devices and creating our own poem as well as writing out own story in the style of a myth! During the second half term we will explore ‘The Animals of Farthing Wood’ plight through persuasive writing followed by our own information texts using inspiration from ‘Animalium.’
Maths
In Maths, we will be continuing our work on multiplication and division. We will also be exploring area, time, and money. We are following the mastery approach, developing our problem solving and reasoning skills.
Science
In the first half term we will be looking at ‘Animals including Humans’. This will include some discovering the digestive system, identifying types of teeth and constructing food chains! In the second half term we will be exploring ‘Sound’. We will look at how sounds are made, the differences between pitch and volume and how sounds travel through the ear!
History
Our history topic has a worldly focus this term! We will be looking at the Ancient Greek civilisation and how it has influenced the way we live today. This will include sport, democracy, how we think, architecture and will develop our historical enquiry skills.
Geography
This term we will be exploring Greece including its human and physical features, and its climate. We will discover why it is so mountainous and volcanic as well as why it is so popular with tourists.
RE
Our first half term will be spent learning about the Hindu festival of colour Holi. We will find out how and why it is celebrated, and what the different colours represent. In the second half term we will be looking at the story of Lent, how Christians observe it and how Shrove Tuesday is celebrated around the world.
French
In French, our first topic is ‘My family’ where we will learn how to talk about and describe our family members. Our second topic will teach us how to talk about school subjects including our likes and dislikes.
Computing
In computing we will be building and programming a simple world on Kodu as well as increasing our knowledge on how to use camera tools for photography.
Art
During the second half of the term, we will be discovering art through our Ancient Greece topic by sculpting our own Greek columns and printing our own Greek pots.
DT
In Design Technology we will be designing and building our own Greek inspired pavilions.
PE
This term in PE we will be improving our fitness through circuits, developing our skills in dodgeball, playing badminton and developing performance in gymnastics.
