We have reached our final term in Class 3, and we have learnt so much already this year. Let me show you what we will be doing during our Summer Term…
Exciting English
First half term
Linking to our history topic we will be exploring the wonders of Ancient Egypt.
We will be writing our own traditional tale linked to the book ‘The Egyptian Cinderella’, before we move onto writing our own recount based in the Valley of the Kings.
Second half term
In our final half term of the year we will be enjoying ‘The Owl Tree’ written by Jenny Nimmo. Taking inspiration from the book to write our very own mystery story.
Marvellous Maths
It is very important that we continue to use the maths skills that we have developed this year so far. We will keep using these in our mental maths sessions, as well as moving onto new units of work.
First half term
This half of the term will be spent exploring time and fractions. Wearing your watches and practising your knowledge of time will help you with this unit.
Second half term
In our final half term we will be looking at geometry, weight and capacity.
Spectacular Science
Our two final units of work in science will make the most of our sunnier days.
First half term
We will begin by investigating the topic of ‘Light’. We will explore shadows, light sources and sun safety.
Second half term
When we begin to study plants, our poly tunnel will be flourishing with growth. Many of our lessons will be outside as we further our knowledge about plants.
Amazing Art
First half term
Linking to our history topic we will be making our own death masks, similar to this one.
Second half term
In our final half term we will be taking our art outside as we create 3D shadow sculptures.
Delicious DT
First half term
In DT we will be following the Olympic cooking and nutrition programme run by ‘Get Set to Eat Fresh’. This will involve us working towards achieving our bronze level in cooking skills.
Second half term
During the final half term we will focus on key British innovations. Challenging ourselves to become future innovators as we complete CREST award challenges.
Terrific topics
First half term – History
We will explore the achievements of the Ancient Egyptians, investigating where and when they appeared.
Second half term – Geography
We will be using fieldwork to observe, measure, record and present the human and physical features in the local area using a range of methods, including sketch maps, plans and graphs, and digital technologies.
PE
Now that the weather is hopefully drier and warmer, we will be heading outside for our PE sessions. We will be improving our skills as part of a focus on tennis and cricket, with year 3 taking part in a cricket competition at Raby Castle. As we move towards Sports Day in July, we will be enjoying our new sports field, as we develop our athletics.
