Class 3 – Summer 2023

Welcome to Class 3

PE is on a Monday and Thursday.

Outdoor learning is on a Tuesday.

Spellings are sent home every Friday.

Homework is sent home on a Friday and should be handed in on a Wednesday.

 

English

In the first half term we will be reading ‘From Tiny Seeds’ followed by ‘Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx’ and ‘See inside Ancient Egypt’ which links to our history topic on Ancient Egypt. We will be writing our own Marcy adventure stories and explanatory text. In our oracy unit we will be recording our own interviews. During the second half term we will read ‘What a waste’ and write our own persuasive text as well as reading ‘The Boy who grew Dragons’ and ‘The street beneath my feet’.

Maths

In Maths, we will be continuing to build our knowledge of fractions. Then we will move on to exploring shape. After half term we will be learning all about money and time before investigating statistics. We will of course be continuing to do lots of practice of our times tables ready for Year 4.

   

Science

In the first half term we will be studying ‘Plants’ learning how to identify their parts and functions, and discovering their life cycle as well as exploring what they need to grow! In the second half term we will use science to explore our topic Animals including Humans. We will look at nutrition and skeletons!

History

Our history topic this term is Ancient Egypt! We will discover what the pyramids were used for, who built them and how they were built. We will also be comparing tools used in Ancient Egypt to those used during the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age.

   

Geography

The topic this term is modern Egypt. During this topic we will learn about lines of latitude and longitude as well as deserts of the world. We will compare Egypt’s climate to the UK, explore the city of Cairo and discover the importance of the River Nile.

RE

This half term we will be learning all about Christian symbols and beliefs through the study of churches. After half term we will be discovering why Moses is so important to Judaism.

French

In French we will be learning about French celebrations during the year and compare them to our English ones. Later we will be learning some French songs that will practice our vocabulary from across the year.

Computing

In computing we will be learning all about desktop publishing. In the next half term we will be building on our programming skills of last term.

   

Art

During the second half of the term, we will be creating our own Egyptian Headdress through collage inspired by Ancient Egypt.

DT

In Design Technology we will be looking at textiles. This includes designing, making and evaluating our own aprons.

Music

This half term has focussed on learning our songs for our play. After half term we will be learning how to play the ukulele.

PSHE

In PSHE we have discussed and explored nutrition and oral hygiene. Next half term we will explore the importance of staying active and sleep routines.

PE

Our focus this half term has been cricket. We will be developing our Athletics skills during the last half term of this year ready for Sports Day!

Outdoor Learning

In Outdoor Learning we will be building on our fire lighting and den building skills. We will also be trying our luck at worm charming as well learning how to guide blindfolded partners safely along a trail.
