On Friday, Montalbo Nursery and Primary School took part in a Football World Cup involving 16 other schools from Teesdale, Shildon and the Bishop Auckland area. They were drawn as ‘France’ and played China, Wales, Mexico twice each in the group stages, winning all six matches. 

As group winners, the progressed to the semi final beating Ghana 2-1 in a tense match, before facing Brazil in the final. France triumphed 1-0 to win the Football World Cup for Montalbo. Mr Minikin, Headteacher, said, ‘They are talented group who played with tremendous teamwork and skill, winning every match. The whole tournament was played in great spirits. We are very proud of the team.’
