This week we have started our learn to read phonics programme, Read Write Inc (RWI). The children start by learning ‘set 1’ sounds. We learn a sound a day, with an associated image and then learn how to write the sound using a rhyme. This week we are learning ‘m, a, s, d and t’. I have included a useful link below to a Youtube channel which shows the correct way to form each letter in accordance with RWI:
We have also been thinking about our pencil grip and are working towards using a tripod grip. We encourage ‘Froggy Fingers’, which involves the pencil being held between the thumb and index finger, if we find a tripod grip tricky.
In RWI, we also play lots of Fred games with Fred the Frog. Fred can only speak in sounds, so the children listen carefully to the sounds he says and then blend the sounds to make a word. It is important in RWI that we use the correct pronunciation of sounds so we can blend effectively. I have included a link below of the correct pronunciations:

We are so impressed with how well the children have done with this and I’m excited for them to share their learning with you at home.
