What a wonderful first week back! Year 6 have had a busy week, and we have already got started with establishing our routines and getting back into the swing of things.
This week, our class enjoyed becoming historians and asking historical enquiry questions about local history sources from Aycliffe’s ammunition factory during the Second World War. We have started exploring the role of women during the war and thinking about how their lives and responsibilities changed during this period.
In maths, we have revisited place value and have enjoyed exploring numbers into the 10 millions! We have also enjoyed becoming immersed in our World War Two theme and have started reading Rose Blanche, which follows the life of a young girl living in Nazi Germany.
We have also explored online safety, discussing different ways we can keep ourselves safe online and ensure our passwords are secure and protected.

We will have double PE every Thursday. This half term, we are very lucky to have a rugby coach leading our PE sessions!

Outdoor Learning
Our Outdoor Learning session takes place on Friday afternoons. Children can leave a change of shoes on their peg throughout the school year so they are always prepared for our outdoor sessions.

Reading at Home
In Year 6, it is especially important that children continue to read regularly at home. Reading supports children’s wellbeing, develops their vocabulary and encourages their imagination to grow.
To encourage a love of reading, we have a Class Reading Raffle! Every time children read at home, they earn a raffle ticket. The more they read, the more tickets they can collect, increasing their chance of winning a prize in our Friday Celebration Assembly.
Reading at home is monitored daily, and we are encouraging all children to make reading a regular part of their home routine.
