This term in nursery we have started off with a superhero theme!
Our first focused story is called ‘Supertato’.
Vegetable rescue!
‘Supertato’ is all about a superhero on a mission to rescue the other vegetables form Evil Pea. Together, we worked as a team to help Supertato to find and rescue the vegetables. We cut them free from the string and used nets to save them from the water tray!
Large scale mark making
We enjoyed designing our own Evil Pea villains. We added capes, masks and faces then talked to our friends about the mischief they would be getting up to!
In maths, we are subitising numbers and learning the composition of numbers. We have been learning some new number rhymes and listening to stories with numbers in them such as, ‘The Three Little Pigs’.
Keep an eye on this page to see what other learning has taken place this half term!
This half term our topic is ‘in the garden’. Firstly, we shared the story ‘Bothered By Bugs’ which was our focused text for World Book Day.
This book highlighted the importance of bugs and encouraged the children to think carefully about how we can take care of them. The children used their creative skills to make dragonflies and painted some fabulous, colourful mini-beasts. The children enjoyed going on bug hunts around the garden, learning about the different habitats in which each bug lives. We learnt facts about different mini-beasts which enabled the children to write their own fact-files about their chosen bugs. Take a look at some of our wonderful creations…
In maths this half term, we started by learning about length. The children learnt to use language such as long, longer, short and shorter to compare the length of different objects. Next, we looked at height using language such as short, tall, shorter and taller. The children enjoyed listening to the story, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ before building their own beanstalks. They then compared the height of their beanstalks. The children particularly enjoyed ordering objects according to their height and compared themselves to the height of each other. We are currently learning all about mass using weighing scales to compare the weight of objects, using language such as heavy, light, heavier and lighter.
