We are pleased to welcome our Nursery children back after the Summer holidays. The children have settled in well and our new starters are already becoming familiar with our daily routines. It has been wonderful to see them exploring their new environment alongside their friends.
To start off the new term, we have been looking at the book, ‘The Colour Monster,’ which has been a lovely starting point for our learning. The children have been exploring emotions and feelings, talking about what makes them feel happy, sad or angry. They have enjoyed painting their own colour monsters, creating expressive faces, and looking closely in the mirror to draw self-portraits.
In maths we have been exploring colours. We have been learning to name, match and sort different colours.

Autumn 2
Wow what a busy start to Autumn 2! Take a look at some of the focused stories we have shared so far…
After listening to ‘Ollie’s Lost Kitten,’ we discovered that Mrs Patterson had lost her black kitten! Nursery children set off in search of the kitten but she was nowhere to be seen! They decided to design ‘lost’ posters, using their emergent writing and creative skills. We popped the posters up in school and luckily the lost kitten was returned!
We had a visit from our sports coach, Ben, and the children took part in some superhero multi-skills activities. They showed off their fantastic throwing, rolling and running skills whilst completing the activities at each station. The children showed superb teamwork as they helped and cheered each other on!
In maths we have been learning all about number one and number two. The children have learnt to count, subitise and recognise the numerals. They have enjoyed participating in dice games, number hunts and subitising activities to consolidate this learning. Next, we looked at patterns, focusing on AB patterns before moving onto ABC patterns. The children used a range of resources to create their own patterns using colour and natural objects and also became experts in spotting the mistake in patterns!
After sharing our story, ‘Leaf Man,’ the children were eager to create their own leaf men! They used natural resources to design them, giving them eyes, ears, arms, legs and even names!
In Nursery, we enjoy being outdoors in all weather! Take a look at some of the fun we’ve had in our garden, embracing the rain…
Currently our Nursery children are busy practising for our Nursery Christmas Sing-a-long. They have been working super hard to learn the words and actions to the songs, and we can’t wait for our performance in December.
