Welcome to Reception
Welcome to Reception! We have been very busy starting our very first half term at school! We have learned some new rules and routines and our adults are very impressed at how quickly we have settled in. We have already started making memories and have developed new friendships. As play is such an important part of our learning, we have been exploring lots of different activities and have thoroughly enjoyed exploring our new classroom and outdoor area.
Our team work and ability to collaborate has been great – building, sharing, drawing, writing and inventing lots of fun games – our imagination and communication skills have already improved! We’ve enjoyed exploring our home corner and serving delicious ‘home cooked meals’, becoming pirates in our butterfly room and even taking turns on the computers.
Our problem solving skills have already started to flourish and we have been trying hard to work together to come up with solutions to our problems and use the resources around us to help. We are so proud of ourselves!
We have started our term by reading ‘The Worrysaurus’. We then painted our own ‘worrysaurus’ and thought a lot about what we can do to make ourselves feel better when we are worried.
We have started our Reception journey with our phonics programme – Read Write Inc. We have so excited to get started and to learn some new sounds and we’ve been recalling them so well! We will also be continuing to share our love of books in school and at home. We have really enjoyed sharing a book as a class, with our friends and on our own and we have made a great start to the year with lots of reading at home. We have read ‘The Worrysaurus’, ‘The Paper Dolls’ and ‘Kind’ and are looking forward to sharing more books each week! After reading ‘the Paper Dolls’ we thought a lot about our own families and ourselves. We will continue this and look at our homes, school and local area in the coming weeks too!
