Welcome to Reception class!
We have been working very hard in Reception, learning all of our new rules and routines, but most importantly making new friends and memories. We have thoroughly enjoyed exploring our new classroom and outdoor area and have settled in incredibly well.
We have done a lot of exploring already. We have demonstrated great team work – building ice-cream shops, houses, cinema rooms and animal sanctuaries. We have also been developing our imagination and communication skills. We have made all kinds of things in the mud kitchen, one of our favourites was definitely the pancakes! We’ve also enjoyed exploring our home corner and serving delicious ‘home cooked meals’.
Our problem solving skills have already started to flourish and we have been trying hard to work together to come up with solutions to our problems and use the resources around us to help. We are so proud of ourselves!
We have started our term learning all about how important and special it is to celebrate our differences. We have been reading about Elmer and he has taught us a lot about being individuals and being proud of ourselves. We have also been learning about each other’s families and are looking forward to discussing where we live and our school and town.
Literacy
This half term we will be starting our phonics programme – Read Write Inc. We are so excited to get started and to learn some new sounds. We will also be continuing to share our love of books in school and at home. We have really enjoyed sharing a book as a class, with our friends and on our own and we have made a great start to the year with lots of reading at home.
Mathematics
We will also be starting our Maths scheme this half term. We follow White Rose and know we will be impressed with how quickly the children adapt to Maths mastery. We have already started doing lots of counting and number songs in our classroom environment and have been great at counting and comparing objects around us. We will be focusing on matching sorting and comparing amounts, representing and comparing numbers and finding one more and one less.
We are looking forward to continuing to settle into our routine and starting our learning journey in Reception. Please visit again soon for an Autumn 2 update!
