Summer 1
This half term our theme is ‘Let’s Go On a Journey’.
For our first journey, we enjoyed the story ‘The Train Ride’ and have had fun playing trains in the DIY role play area, going on imaginative journeys, buying and selling tickets, painting with trains and constructing our own railway line. We also set up a super long train across the classroom and pretended to spot things out the window, just like the girl did in the story. Some of the things that the children spotted out of the train windows were ‘massive dinosaurs’, ‘galloping horses’, ‘forty-two deer’ and ‘lambs on hill’.
Naughty Bus
We enjoyed one of Mrs Patterson’s favourite stories, the ‘Naughty Bus’. In the story the bus is super busy and goes on lots of exciting adventures around the home and garden. In class we acted out the story using props and resources from our small world area, some children even made a pond for it to fall into and then used string and pipe cleaners to rescue it. We also had a visit from a real bus. The children got to ask lots of questions to find out more information about real buses and the role of a bus driver. They even got to sit on it and went on an imaginative journey to the beach. The radio wasn’t working very well so instead the nursery children all sang a song to the bus driver. We would like to thank Sophie’s Dad (Mr Maude) for very kindly bringing his bus to school and answering all the insightful questions.
Maisy Goes to London
After enjoying the story about a London bus we decided to find out more about London. It was great to learn about the different landmarks and compare them to our town. Some children tried to make models of the landmarks that Maisy spotted in London. We thought that Maisy might like to come and visit our wonderful town so we made her maps with some of Barnard Castle’s special features and landmarks on.
Summer 2
For our final half term this year, we are diving into the depths of the ocean with an ‘Under the Sea’ theme to our learning.
So far, we have been enjoying…
Keep an eye on this page to see which sea creature we will be finding out about next.
