Happy New Year Year3!
We have got a jam packed term ahead of us, with lots of exciting learning. Let’s have a look at what we will be exploring:
English
In the first half of the term we will be using texts that link to both Science and History topics. We will be writing instructions, letters and our very own fantasy story.
After half term we will writing our own biographies, inspired by the famous scientist, Mary Anning, as well as enjoying an emotional journey through the Stone Age.
Maths
In maths this term we will continue to use the skills that we have already mastered, becoming more secure in our use of the 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 10 times tables.
Our new learning will centre around developing an understanding of money, statistics, length and perimeter and finally fractions.
Science
We begin 2021 learning about Animals Including Humans. We will be checking our understanding from the Year2 learning during lockdown before moving onto our new learning where we will investigate skeletons and muscles and how we can keep our bodies strong and healthy.
After the half term break we will be moving onto the topic of ‘Rocks’. Exploring how rocks are formed and their properties.
RE
We will begin the term focussing on the religion of Islam, particularly focussing on Islamic prayer. The second half of the term will link to the Christian festival of Easter, with us exploring Pam Sunday.
History
In history we will be delving into prehistoric times. Understanding how life changed from Stone Age through to Iron Age. We will search for evidence to find how people lived during this time period.
Geography
Is the UK the same everywhere? This is the question that we will be answering during the first half of the term. We will be using an atlas to find mountains, rivers and cities, as well as understanding key population statistics which can help us to understand an area better.
Art
After half term we will be brushing up on our watercolour skills, being inspired by the artist John Constable, and his paintings of StoneHenge. We will also be discovering printing techniques linked to Palm Sunday in RE. We will explore natural printing using Palm Sunday and artist Angie Lewin as inspiration.
DT
In Design Technology we will be learning about seasonal food and will make our own fruit crumbles as well as a roasted vegetable tart.
PE
We will begin the term with gymnastics, working on our core strength, balance and flexibility. Make sure that you come to school in your full Montalbo School PE kit on Thursday and Friday. As we will get outside for some PE sessions, make sure that you have a jumper or other suitable sports top.
French
We begin the New Year learning about how to describe our bodies in french. We will be learning how to follow the actions to famous french songs and talk about our appearance.
Outdoor Learning
Our Outdoor Learning sessions will focus on orienteering skills in the first half term. Don’t forget your wellies on a Thursday, things could get muddy!
