My name is Sarah O’Doherty. I grew up in Appleby, Cumbria, and moved to Barnard Castle in 2004 with my husband, John. We soon had 3 children, all of who, in time, started Nursery at Montalbo Nursery & Primary School as it offered that small, nurturing environment with a high quality education. All 3 of my children loved their time at Montalbo, with the school providing a solid academic and wholistic education.
I became a parent governor in 2014. In July 2018 I became a co-opted governor. I am currently Chair of the Governing Body. I sit on many different committees. I am Chair of the Appeals Committee and the Head Teacher’s Performance Committee. I additionally sit on the Curriculum, Standards, Behaviour and Safety Committee and the Finance, Premises and Staffing Committee. I am the designated Safeguarding Governor. I have a responsibility for Looked After Children, Previously Looked After Children, Key Stage 2 and Science.
My background is Education. I have been a secondary school science teacher for over 20 years. My vision as a Governor is to ensure Montalbo Nursery and Primary School is well led and financed strongly. That the school provides an exciting, innovative and enjoyable learning environment, with a broad and balanced curriculum, which is fully accessible for all, where children feel safe, welcomed, inspired and happy. It is my intention that I and all the governing body, support the Head Teacher, allowing him to establish the clear vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school that allows the children to reach their full potential in a stimulating and rewarding environment.
